You don't have to give up studying Japanese because of the kanji.

Please continue studying Japanese effectively with the study method that suits your needs!

Kanji are Chinese characters which were introduced to Japan more than 1500 yeas ago when the Japanese Language did not have a writing system. Hiragana and katakana evolved later in Japan based on the simplified Chinese characters.

Kanji represents both meanings and sounds. Most  kanij posses multiple readings, which are divided into 2 types: on-yomi (Chinese readings) and kun-yomi (Japanese readings).

This free application imiwa? is a multilingual Japanese dictionary that does not require an internet connection. You see the meaning, how to read and stroke order.
