Casual/Plain/Short form

 The short form can be used instead of masu form in casual situations. 

Please note if you try to speak in a casual tone and just use the dictionary form of a verb without a sentence ending particle, it sounds a little bit unnatural. Sentence ending particles have functions that indicate the speaker’s mood, emotions, or attitude and often convey friendliness or make the sentence softer. There are many different sentences ending particles, including but not limited to.
